Hey, I’m Jye.
Since becoming a Developmental Editor, I’ve dedicated myself to helping first-time speculative fiction authors transform their drafts into polished, publishable works.
I hold a deep passion for storytelling. My day is not complete until a story has been told and felt. I find myself, more often than not, thinking through a narrative lens. I can’t help but find the motifs, ironies, and symbols in my everyday life. (If nothing else, as an attempt to draw the blood of meaning out of this arbitrarily orbiting stone — we all have our preferred ways!). Through this lens from which I view the world, I see life and art as inseparable; life imitates art just as much as art imitates life.
That is why I’ve dedicated the time to learning how compelling narratives are crafted. To learn the theory, and become a part of the process of bringing stories to life, as an editor.
As a developmental editor, I am your constructive collaborator, someone who can lend outside perspective and a professional eye. I see your story as a weave of threads — from larger aspects like character and scene structure, to the individual components of a scene like tone and tension — all shaping and developing in chorus. It is my job to identify the tangled threads, the ones buried underneath others, and not only alert the author to these areas, but also provide solutions and suggestions. Together, we work to create the space for each thread to develop individually while fitting harmoniously into the bigger picture.
